How to treat your skin in winter?
September has started and although it’s officially still summer, we feel it’s already getting colder. Before you know it, it will be winter again and of course that means taking extra care of your skin. Especially when you have sensitive or problem skin, winter can be brutal on your skin. Luckily SELF can help you – whether you have either a normal or problem skin – to get through winter without worries.
We don’t have to tell you that our skin suffers in winter. The difference between the freezing temperatures outside and the warmth inside can cause dry and flaky skin. Very annoying to say the least, but there are some simple things you can do in the comfort of your own home to restore your skin.
Scrub, scrub, scrub
Many people with dry or sensitive skin are afraid to scrub, as they fear it will make their skin even more unhappy. But it’s important to scrub your skin every week to remove the dead skin cells and allowing other products to do their jobs. However, most scrubs can be aggressive because they contain oversized grains so it’s crucial to choose a mild cleansing scrub!
SELF’s Boost of Oxygen is a delightfully soft and effective facial scrub, packed with rice kennels and natural essential oils. It removes dead skin while nourishing and repairing the skin at the same time. You can enjoy this facial scrub once or twice a week.
The Fine Deluxe body scrub is a delicate scrub made with Dead Sea salts and natural essential oils. Just like the facial scrub, it effectively removes dead skin cells and at the same time, provides intense nourishment for the skin. It can be used as a body scrub to stimulate circulation and give your skin a silky-soft glow, but you can also use it as a bath salt to treat yourself to a revitalizing and detoxifying bathing experience.
Choose moisturizing creams
A dry skin is a skin that can’t keep on to enough fats. When you use a rich cream these fats are resupplied, meaning the moisture will remain in the skin and restoring the skin’s barrier. The moisture loss will be kept to a minimum. Most creams leave a layer on top of the skin, but this will just seal it off. So choose a product that absorbs well. SELF’s day cream and body butter will definitely do the job.
Avoid hot baths and showers
We all enjoy taking a hot bath on a cold day, but your skin won’t like it so much. It causes the skin to dry out. So try not to stay in the tub too long and also try to avoid foam as it can dry out the skin as well.
With these tips, we’re sure you and your skin will get through winter effortlessly. Don’t forget to enjoy the winter wonderland!
